McDermott to overhaul platforms offshore Middle East

McDermott International (NYSE: MDR) has won offshore Middle East contracts for two projects with a total value of $900 million.

HOUSTON –McDermott International (NYSE: MDR) has won offshore Middle East contracts for two projects with a total value of $900 million.

One calls for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of a new tie-in platform, with a 3,200-metric ton (3,527-ton) topsides and six-pile jacket. Additionally, McDermott will provide two auxiliary platforms, jackets and bridges, five observation platforms, 72 km (45 mi) of pipelines, and 45 km (28 mi) of subsea cables. Water depths range from 10-30 m (33-98 ft).

The scope includes upgrades to five platforms with new main, mezzanine, cellar and helicopter decks, and new boat landings. All work is expected to be completed in summer 2015.

The second contract involves fabrication, transportation, and installation of five drill support structures weighing a total of 7,993 metric tons (8,811 tons) in water depths ranging from 30-65 m (98-213 ft). All work, including hookup and commissioning, is expected to be completed in 1Q 2014.

McDermott will perform engineering for these projects at its Al-Khobar and Dubai engineering offices, and construction at its fabrication facility in Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates. It will use its own vessels for the offshore installations.
