The US Interior Department plans to offer more than 21 million acres of federal area offshore Texas in Proposed Lease Sale 233 scheduled for August 28.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The US Interior Department plans to offer more than 21 million acres of federal area offshore Texas in Proposed Lease Sale 233 scheduled for August 28. The DoI says this will include all available unleased areas in the Western Gulf of Mexico Planning Area.

Lease Sale 233 will include 3,953 blocks, located from nine to 250 mi (402 km) offshore, in water depths ranging from 16 to more than 10,975 ft (5 to 3,346 m).

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management estimates the sale could result in the production of116 to 200 MMbbl of oil and 538 to 938 bcf of natural gas.

The terms and conditions outlined for Sale 233 in the Proposed Notice of Sale are not final. Different terms and conditions may be employed in the Final Notice of Sale, which will be published at least 30 days before the sale.
