Faroe declares Darwin wildcat in Barents Sea as dry well

ABERDEEN, UK – The Darwin exploration well 7218/11-1 in the Norwegian Barents Sea is dry. Faroe Petroleum said the well had gas shows in the Paleocene interval and no hydrocarbons in the Cretaceous.

Data collected from the drilling, including wireline logs, pressure data, and sidewall cores, is being evaluated.

The Darwin prospect is on the Veslemøy High in the frontier western part of the Barents Sea approximately 60 to 80 km (37 to 50 mi) southwest of Statoil’s recentSkrugard and Havis oil discoveries. The well was drilled to a TD of 2,542 m (8,340 ft) and now will be permanently P&A’d.

The drilling was by Repsol Exploration Norge AS (20%) using theTransocean Barents semisubmersible drilling rig. The other joint venture partners are Talisman Energy Norge AS (12.5%), Marathon Oil Norge AS (10%), RWE Dea Norge AS (15%), Det norske oljeselskap ASA (10%), and Concedo ASA (20%).
