DUBLIN, Ireland – The semisubmersible Eirik Raude has spudded ExxonMobil’s first deepwater Dunquin prospect well offshore Ireland.

Dunquin is in license FEL 3/04 off the west coast.

According to partner Providence Resources, the program is estimated to last 65 days. The structure could contain 8.4 tcf (238 bcm) of gas and 316 MMbbl of oil.

Tony O’Reilly, CEO of Providence, said: “This is a landmark well given that it is the first to be drilled in the central part of the deepwatersouthern Porcupine basin and is designed to test a new and potentially material Lower Cretaceous carbonate exploration play concept.”
