LONDON– Falkland Oil and Gas Ltd. (FOGL) has updated the status of its 3D seismic operations over licenses south and east of the Falkland Islands.

PGS’M/V Ramform Sterling has completed a 3D seismic survey over the mid-Cretaceous Diomedea fan complex within the southern area permits, acquiring 5,235 sq km (2,021 sq mi) of full-fold seismic data. More 3D data was acquired than planned because of the favorable conditions. The Diomedea fan system covers a large area and the partners wanted as much data as possible over prospective areas.

PGS will process the results and a fasttrack product will be available for interpretation in about four months, and will be used to start prospect mapping and well planning. Initial test lines from the survey suggest high-quality data and imaging of the Cretaceous target interval.

Noble Energy operated the survey on behalf of partners FOGL and Edison International.

Ramform Sterling has begun a second 3D seismic survey, which will cover a minimum of 1,000 sq km (386 sq mi) over prospects and leads in FOGL’s southern license area, west/northwest of Borders and Southern’s Darwin gas/condensate discovery.

Tenders have been received for a third 3D seismic survey in the northern license area in 4Q 2013.
