READING, UK – BG Group has completed appraisal drilling on the Jodari gas discovery in block 1 offshore Tanzania.

Thedrillstem test in 1,150 m (3,773 ft) of water – the first in deepwater off Tanzania – flowed at up to 70 MMcf/d (2 MMcm/d) from one of the three wells drilled into the Tertiary reservoir, at a location 39 km (24 mi) from the southern coast. Results suggest better than expected reservoir properties, including high connectivity, and demonstrated that development wells could produce at higher rates.

BG Group CEO Chris Finlayson said the test results “have greatly improved our understanding of the subsurface, reducing uncertainty as we progress our options for commercializing the resource through a potential liquefied natural gas export project and our domestic market obligations.”

The drillshipDeepsea Metro-1 next transfers 22 km (13.7 mi) to the north to test the Mzia-2 appraisal well on the same block 1.

BG is currently performing a 3D seismic survey to help identify new exploration targets offshore Tanzania.

The company has a 60% operated interest in blocks 1, 3, and 4 in partnership with Ophir Energy.
