BATH, UK – Wessex Exploration continues to evaluate its license offshore the Isle of Wight in southern England.

P1928 is an offshore promote license granted in May 2012 under the UK’s 26th offshore bid round. The location is off the Hampshire and Isle of Wight coasts, and just east of the Perenco-operated Wytch Farm onshore/offshore oil field.

The initial focus has been on purchasing and reprocessing existing legacy seismic data and on acquiring 70 km (43 mi) of new 2D seismic.

The new survey, designed to de-risk structural aspects of the Steelhead lead, is scheduled to take place later this year once relevant environmental studies are performed and regulatory approvals are obtained.

Wessex and partner NWE Mirrabooka aim to bring at least one of the known leads to drillable status in 2014, and commit to drill within the following two years. However, a further partner would probably be needed for the well.
