Transocean takes first of two new jackups

Transocean (NYSE:RIG) has named its two newest jackups, Transocean Siam Driller and Transocean Andaman, at a ceremony in Keppel FELS.

SINGAPORE– Transocean (NYSE:RIG) has named its two newest jackups, Transocean Siam Driller and Transocean Andaman, at a ceremony in Keppel FELS.

The KFELS Super B Class Bigfoot rigs, both customized to meet Transocean’s requirements, are contracted to work for Chevronoffshore Thailand. Transocean SiamDrillerhas been delivered, while Transocean Andaman is expected to be completed in March.

The design features larger spud cans, giving the rigs expanded coverage in more places, especially in regions of soft soil. Features include a 1.5-million pound drilling system and maximum combined cantilever load of 3,200 kips; and offline stand building to allow for simultaneous drilling and preparation of drill pipes.
