STX Norway, Romanian yards get subsea construction vessel orders

SINGAPORESTX OSV Holdings (STX OSV) has won contracts to design and build three new subsea construction vessels.

DOF Subsea has ordered one vessel of the OSCV 12 design, developed by STX OSV in Ålesund, Norway. The hull will be built at SYX’s yard in Tulcea, Romania, and completed at STX OSV Søviknes in 1Q 2015. It will be 161 m (528 ft) long, with a beam of 32 m (105 ft).

Farstad Shipping’s vessel will be designed for subsea and inspection, maintenance, and repair tasks. The contract value is roughly $144 million. The vessel will be of the OSCV 07 design with a total length of 143 m (469 ft), beam of 25 m (82 ft), and a deck area of more than 1,800 sq m (19,375 sq ft). It will be equipped with two offshore cranes, one of which will have lifting capacity of 250 tons.

Three ROVs can be kept onboard, with accommodation for 130 personnel. Delivery is scheduled from STX OSV Langsten in 1Q 2015, following construction of the hull in Tulcea.

Solstad Offshore has ordered an OSCV 03 design vessel, equipped with a 250-ton crane and accommodation for 100 crew members. The vessel’s overall length will be around 121 m (397 ft), with a beam of 23 m (75 ft). Contract value is $108 million. Tulcea will fabricate the hull, with delivery from STX OSV Aukra in Norway scheduled for 2Q 2014.
