Saipem to build and install Ivar Aasen jacket

TRONDHEIM, NorwayDet norske oljeselskap has commissioned Saipem to build the steel jacket for the Ivar Aasen platform in the Norwegian North Sea.

This will be constructed in Arbatax, Sardinia. It will be 138 m (453 ft) tall, with a total weight of 14,400 tons.

Saipem also has the transportation and installation contract for the entire platform. The steel jacket will be installed offshore in April 2015, followed by mating of the platform deck (to be constructed bySMOE in Singapore) in May/June 2016.

Total value of the contracts to Saipem is $180 million. Engineering in both cases will be performed in London.
