HOUSTON – Friede & Goldman, Ltd. (F&G) says it has entered into a license agreement with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Inc. (DSIC) for the basic design of two JU-2000E high-specification jackup drilling rigs, to be constructed for Seadrill Ltd.

The new units are scheduled for delivery in the 1Q and 2Q 2015. The contract also contains options for two additional units which would be scheduled for delivery in 3Q and 4Q 2015. This contract marks the 14th and 15th JU-2000E delivered by or under construction at DSIC and the 5th and 6th JU-2000E drilling rig constructed for Seadrill Limited.

Friede & Goldman says that the JU-2000E design represents the latest generation of high-specification jackup drilling rigs with greater capacities and capabilities than most existing units. The rigs will have the capability to operate in water depths up to 400 ft (122 m) and drill to depths of 30,000 ft (9,144 m). F&G has in addition signed contracts with DSIC to supply their patented Rack Chock leg fixation system.

“We are excited to announce the signing of these new license agreements which represent the industry’s continued confidence in the quality of our designs,” said Paul Geiger Jr., president and CEO, Friede & Goldman. “We currently have 23 F&G designed jackup rigs under construction at various shipyards around the world and continue to receive new interest in our designs for jackups and semisubmersibles. The JU-2000E units added to the worldwide fleet will be some of the most capable jackups in the world.”
