The ASCO Group has entered a cooperative agreement with Brazilian logistics company LLX to support the development of the $2.5 billion Açu Superport north of Rio de Janeiro.

ABERDEEN, Scotland – The ASCO Group has entered a cooperative agreement with Brazilian logistics company LLX to support the development of the $2.5 billion Açu Superport north of Rio de Janeiro.

The new port, in Sao Joao da Barra, is expected to be one of the world’s three largest port complexes, ASCO said.

Açu Superport will feature an oil and gas terminal, TX 2, which will have a channel 6.5-km (4-mi) long and 300 m (984 ft) wide, 13 km (8.1 mi) of quay, and depth ranging from 10 m (33 ft) to 18.5 m (61 ft). The terminal will also handle other types of cargo.

ASCO will design and operate facilities at the port that support oil and gas exploration and production. The port is scheduled to open in the first half of 2014.
