RDS joins Aibel on Gullfaks B upgrades

Offshore staff

BERGEN, Norway – Aibel has awarded RDS a three-year contract for brownfield engineering and offshore construction work for the Gullfaks field in the North Sea.

This is connected to the drilling facility upgrade on the Gullfaks B platform.

Bjarne Tresselt, business manager of RDS Norway, said: “We joined Aibel in a long-term cooperation for drilling upgrades early this year…The experience gained from our first operation together on the Oseberg C pipe handling project was very positive, and we will adopt the same model and learnings into the Gullfaks B work.”

The program will comprise engineering and offshore installation work, with a requirement for extensive onshore testing of equipment prior to starting installation.  RDS will provide specialist competence for drilling and system upgrading activity.

Additionally, RDS’ parent company KCA Deutag has won a contract from Gullfaks operator Statoil to provide drill pipe pool services on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The program could last up to 10 years and covers management, maintenance, and logistics of drill pipe for 17 of Statoil’s platforms including the seven where KCA Deutag is currently the drilling contractor.
