Boskalis vessels engaged for North Sea rock dump duty

Offshore staff

PAPENDRECHT, the Netherlands – Boskalis Offshore has won two contracts with a combined value close to $132 million for seabed preparation programs offshore northwest Europe.

In the North Sea and Norwegian Sea, the company will perform various rock installation works for Statoil in up to 600 m (1,968 ft) water depth. The scope comprises preparing the seabed for installation of pipelines and other structures on the seafloor, and installation of post-lay rock berms.

This will involve deployment of fallpipe vessels, including the Rockpiper, which will likely process more than 4 million tons of rock sourced from Norwegian quarries. The program will start next year and is expected to be completed by end-2015.

In addition, Boskalis Offshore has won a contract for Maersk Oil’s Dan Bravo Rationalisation (DABRAT) project in the Danish North Sea.

The program involves preparation and construction work to the Dan A and Dan B offshore oil production facilities, with the DSVs Protea and Constructor deployed to execute the subsea work. The program is expected to be conducted in 2013-2014.

Depending on the water depth both saturation diving and air diving will be used, and various other tasks will be performed using ROVs.
