Offshore staff
NICOSIA, Cyprus – A long-distance subsea cable system will provide telecommunications to the offshore oil and gas sector in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The high-capacity Poseidon system will extend for about 800 km (497 mi) from two shore landings in Cyprus, creating a “ring” bordering the Cypriot EEZ area, and encompassing the offshore oil and gas lease blocks offered by the Republic of Cyprus.
Radius Oceanic Communications and the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (Cyta) are jointly responsible for the project. Cyta offers services ranging from fixed and mobile telephony to Internet service provision and broadband applications.
For Poseidon, Cyta will provide landing facilities and collocation services at its cable stations in Pentaskhinos and Yeroskipos. Radius will use the subsea cable system to send managed broadband services on a subscriber basis to offshore E&P support facilities.
