Statoil Petroleum has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Statoil Petroleum has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea.

The semisubmersibleWest Alpha will drill well 6610/10-1 on production license 386 in 244 m (800 ft) of water. The location is 92 km (57 mi) northwest of the Norne FPSO and 130 km (81 mi) from Brønnøysund.

Drilling could start early in December, and is expected to last 42 days.
