RIO DE JANEIRO –Petrobras has cancelled plans to contract five deepwater drilling rigs from Ocean Rig Group.

The decision, says Petrobras, is based on a reduction in future drilling planned in the Santos basin presalt because of the higher productivity from wells in current area production projects.

The rigs were to be able to drill in 3,000 m (9,840 ft) water depths.

Petrobras hasseveral agreements for newbuild rigs and for work with added drilling contractors.
