OSLO, Norway – National Petroleum Corp. of Namibia (NAMCOR) has contracted Petroleum Geo Services (PGS) to acquire 2D and 3D multi-client seismic offshore Namibia.

Under the 10-year agreement, PGS will start the program early next year with a large 2D regional program over the open deepwater blocks. These will be the focus of a future licensing round, and this survey will provide the prime technical dataset.

PGS will deploy its latest GeoStreamer dual sensor technology for the campaign, which will cover the entire length of the Namibian offshore, from the Angolan border in the north to the South African border in the south.

Mike Johnson, the company’s vice president of business development, Africa & Middle East multi-client, said: “GeoStreamer offers clear and proven operational advantages, and dual sensor technology will provide explorationists with the clearest ever 2D and 3D imaging of the subtle stratigraphic traps that are key to unlocking Namibia’s full offshore hydrocarbon potential.”
