PARIS – CGGVeritas and Saudi Aramco are to collaborate on R&D to develop a new robotized technique for seabed seismic acquisition.
This follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies five months ago concerningjoint studies on geophysical acquisition, processing, analysis, and interpretation technologies.
Under the terms of the SpiceRack project, CGGVeritas and Saudi Aramco will work closely to develop, manufacture, and commercialize the new automated solution, based on deployment of self-propelled recording nodes.
CGGVeritas claims it could lead to a step-change in the efficient delivery of reservoir quality seismic data.
Both parties will pool their respective resources to the project. CGGVeritas will strengthen its ties with the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
In addition, the company will establish a Center of Excellence for Automation in Geophysical Acquisition at the new technology center in the Dhahran Techno Valley with ARGAS, its Saudi joint venture with TAQA.
