    GoM update: Coast Guard says no deaths in platform explosion

    The US Coast Guard in New Orleans says 11 people were evacuated by helicopter to onshore medical facilities and two remain missing following the fire earlier today at a production platform in West Delta 32 offshore Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico.

    HOUSTON –The US Coast Guard in New Orleans says 11 people were evacuated by helicopter to onshore medical facilities and two remain missing following the fire earlier today at a production platform in West Delta 32 offshore Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico.

    Nine people were evacuated without injury, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Ryan Tippets.

    The fire reportedly ignited when a line was cut during maintenance work on the platform which is under contract to Black Elk Energy.
