HOUSTON – Investigators from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) met Monday with personnel from Black Elk Energy at the site of a Nov. 16 Gulf of Mexico platform explosion and fire.
The accident in West Delta block 32 offshore Louisiana left one worker confirmed dead, another missing and 11 injured. Black Elk said in a statement Monday that it would continue to search for the missing worker throughout the night. The US Coast Guard suspended its search and rescue operations on Saturday.
BSEE said its investigators will collect physical evidence, interview personnel on board the platform at the time of the explosion and oversee the cleanup of any pollution.
“BSEE personnel have been working around the clock inspecting the facility, meeting with witnesses and reviewing all available technical documents to ensure that we are able to obtain an accurate representation of what happened on West Delta 32 early Friday morning,” said BSEE Director James A. Watson.
