PARIS – CGGVeritas (NYSE:CGV) has completed the first 3D BroadSeis marine surveys recorded offshore China.

China Oilfield Services Ltd. (COSL) contracted the company for deepwater surveys of two areas offshore Shenzhen in the eastern South China Sea, on behalf of Chinese national oil company CNOOC.

Data processing is under way at CGGVeritas’ Singapore center and results should be delivered by the end of this year.

The contract was awarded under a framework agreement for technical collaboration with COSL concerning BroadSeis, CGGVeritas’ proprietary marine broadband solution. It was specified for this project to address the need for complex imaging of both shallow and deep targets in the area.

TheViking II vessel, operating with eight x 8,100-m (26,575-ft) Sercel Sentinel streamers fitted with Sercel Nautilus streamer control devices, acquired the 1,000-sq km (386-sq mi) full-fold data over the two survey areas which included the congested HuiZhou production area.

The surveys were completed 10 days ahead of schedule, minimizing the impact of seasonal weather patterns.
