Strong results from latest Peregrino area well offshore Brazil

Statoil and partner Sinochem have drilled a successful appraisal well (3-STAT-8-RJS) on the Peregrino South discovery in the Campos basin offshore Brazil.

STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil and partner Sinochem have drilled a successful appraisal well (3-STAT-8-RJS) on the Peregrino South discovery in the Campos basin offshore Brazil.

Results confirm the potential of the original exploration well which was completed in April 2011. The aims were to confirm the previous volume estimate for Peregrino South and to arrive at an optimal solution for thePeregrino Phase 2 development.

The appraisal well encountered 85 m (279 ft) of good-quality oil-filled sandstone reservoir in the Carapebus formation, supporting the current subsurface model. Net pay in the well was more than 70%.

The Peregrino main field is 85 km (53 mi) offshore in around 100 m (328 ft) of water in licenses BM-C-7 and BM-C-47. Statoil operates with 60%, the remainder held by Sinochem. Facilities comprise of two drilling and wellhead platforms and a large FPSO.Oil production started in April 2011.

In February 2012, Statoil also participated in theRepsol Sinopec-operated potentially high-impact Pão de Açúcar discovery in block BM-C-33.
