Saipem wins offshore drilling charters in Middle East

GDF Suez has chartered Saipem’s semisub Scarabeo 4 for a three-month drilling program offshore Egypt.

SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy --GDF Suez has chartered Saipem’s semisub Scarabeo 4 for a three-month drilling program offshore Egypt.

The rig, a second-generation semi operable in water depths up to 1,500 ft (457 m), has been under contract to IEOC in the same sector.

Offshore Abu Dhabi, NDC has chartered Saipem’s jackupPerro Negro 3 for a three-year drilling program, starting early in 2013.

Finally, EP Petroecuador has chartered the jackupOcean Spur for an 18-month campaign offshore Ecuador, due to start in the current quarter. The rig is owned by Diamond Offshore Services, but will be operated by Saipem.

Like thePerro Negro 3, it can operate in water depths off up to 300 ft (91 m).
