CALGARY, Canada -- The semisub Noble Homer Ferrington is drilling GeoGlobal Resources’ second exploratory well offshore Israel.

The Sara-1 well spudded late last month, 60 km (37 mi) from the coast in around 1,400 m (4,593 ft.). It will be drilled vertically to 4,000 m (13,123 ft) TVDSS and should take 50 days to drill.

GeoGlobal is operator, in partnership with ILDC Energy, Israel Land Development Co., Modiin Energy, IDB, and IPC Oil and Gas.

Earlier, the same rig completed theMyra-1 well for GeoGlobal. Wireline logging found no hydrocarbons were present in the well, although log results did reveal the presence of high quality Lower Miocene sands – equivalent in age to the Tamar discovery sands – and gas shows, indicating an active hydrocarbon system in the Myra license.

Further analysis will follow to assess the potential for additional drilling on the license, including a potential sidetrack from the Myra-1 well which has been P&A’d.
