STAINES, UK – The semisubmersible Ocean Nomad has spudded the first of three wells in the Darwin area of the UK northern North Sea for operator Fairfield Energy.

The Darwin area includes the southern end of block 211/27a (the decommissioned NW Hutton field) and an extension into block 211/27e. The location is 130 km (81 mi) northeast of the Shetland Islands.

Fairfield has a 50% interest in both blocks following afarm-out earlier this year to TAQA Bratani.

Drilling follows a multi-year program of subsurface studies involving new 3D seismic and static/dynamic modeling, which have identified potentially significant hydrocarbon volumes.
