OSLO, Norway– DNV has developed a new class notation for seismic vessels that focuses on increased availability of the vessel during critical phases of seismic operations.

Maintaining propulsion power is a key issue and the class notation considers the DNV concept for redundant propulsion a step further than before so that any failure on board will not lead to a loss of more than 50% forward thrust to protect air guns and streamers that are deployed.

The new notation also addresses the deck arrangement to facilitate side-by-side transfer of crew and supplies, and the bridge arrangement to ensure good views of the streamers and nearby workboats.

It also addresses high-pressure systems to ensure safe deck operations.
