Damen delivers two newbuild PSVs for Petrobras service

Damen Shipyards has delivered two platform supply vessels of the PSV 4500 type to Wilson Sons Ultratug Offshore.

GORINCHEM, the Netherlands –Damen Shipyards has delivered two platform supply vessels of the PSV 4500 type to Wilson Sons Ultratug Offshore. The vessels were built under license by Wilson, Sons (Santos, Brazil) for long-term charter to Petrobras.

Wilson Sons Ultratug, a joint venture between Brazilian operator Wilson Sons and the Chilean Ultratug group, is to deliver four more such vessels throughout 2013.

The 4,500 DWT vessel has a LOA of 87 m (285 ft.), 16 m (52 ft.,) beam, maximum draught of 6.19 m (20 ft.), and 840 sq. m (9,042 sq. ft.) of deck area. A diesel electric propulsion system comprising four Caterpillar 3512C generator sets, each of 1,570 ekW at 1,800 rpm, power two Rolls-Royce azimuth thrusters of 2,500 kW. Fixed pitch propellers of 2,800 mm diameter, with nozzle, deliver a speed of 13 knots (at 5 m draught). A Caterpillar C9 genset of 238 ekW at 1,800 rpm is for emergency use. Twin bow thrusters ensure maneuverability and the vessel has a DP-2 classification. There is accommodation for a crew of 14 and up to six passengers.
