Offshore staff
OSLO, Norway – Aker Solutions (Oslo Børs:AKSO) has acquired a fabrication facility in Sandnessjøen, Norway, to better position itself for current and future development projects in the Norwegian Sea and farther north.
The facility, currently owned by Rukki Construction Norge, is at Helgelands Industrial Park. It has not been in service for the past year. Historically, the focus here has been on fabrication of steel structures, including deliveries to the oil industry.
The transaction value is undisclosed.
Tore Sjursen, head of maintenance, modifications, and operations at Aker Solutions, said the plant would undertake work related to subsea developments as well as “traditional” offshore and onshore structures. “We will start by recruiting around 40 employees…”
Prior to start-up, buildings and equipment will be upgraded to prepare for planned activities. At the same time, Aker Solutions will look to transfer knowledge and competence from its established fabrication yard in Egersund, southern Norway.
In February, Aker Solutions acquired local contractor Sandnessjøen Engineering, which currently has 41 employees. Late last year, Aker also announced it would set up an engineering office nearby in Tromsø, currently staffed by 61 employees.
Additionally, the group has acquired Narvik-basedwell technology business X3M Invent, and is in currently building a subsea service base in Hammerfest.
