Petrobras begins Chinook offshore production in deepwater GoM

Petrobras has started production from Chinook field in ultra deepwater Gulf of Mexico using the FPSO BW Pioneer.

HOUSTON –Petrobras has started production from Chinook field in ultra deepwater Gulf of Mexico using the FPSO BW Pioneer. This is the first-ever use of an FPSO for production in the US GoM.

The vessel is in2,500 m (8,202 ft) water depth 250 km (155 mi) offshore Louisiana and can process 80,000 b/d of oil and 1.76 MMcf/d of gas.

Oil will go ashore by shuttle tanker and the gas will pass through a pipeline.

Chinook is owned by Petrobras (66.67%) in partnership with Total Exploration Production USA Inc. (33.33%).
