ABERDEEN, UK – BP (NYSE:BP) has contracted Emerson Process Management to provide integrated control and safety systems for the new FPSO under construction for the Quad 204 project west of Shetland.

The 270-m (886-ft) long vessel will replace the existingSchiehallionFPSO, and will serve the Schiehallion and Loyal fields.

It is designed to produce 130,000 b/d of oil and 2.2 MMcm/d of gas, providing increased processing and storage capacity to enable optimum reservoir recovery, extended field life, and also allow for future expansion.

Under the $21-million contract, Emerson will supply its PlantWeb digital plant architecture, including its DeltaV digital automation system and DeltaV SIS process safety system, and AMS Suite predictive maintenance software. The DeltaV system will control and monitor platform operations using FOUNDATION fieldbus and HART communication technologies.

According to Emerson, the advanced process control software functionality will optimize facility performance, production and output. If required, the DeltaV SIS system will also perform process and emergency shutdown functions, and will control fire and gas detection systems to secure oil production on the platform.

AMS Suite predictive maintenance software will be used for commissioning, configuration, and monitoring of field device diagnostics. Emerson division METCO will provide a real-time performance management system, and the company’s simulation-based training program will be used to instruct operators prior to start-up.

Emerson won further contracts to supply its Rosemount pressure, temperature, radar level transmitters and magnetic flowmeters; Rosemount Analytical gas chromatographs; and Daniel venturi and ultrasonic flowmeters.
