EDINBURGH, UK – The jackup Atwood Aurora has spudded the IM-5 appraisal/development well on the MLHP-7 block in the Etinde permit offshore Cameroon.

Operator Bowleven’s main aim is to determine the reservoir and fluid properties of the Middle Isongo sands. A secondary goal is to explore the potential of the Intra Isongo reservoir sands.

The Upper Isongo reservoir sands, proven to be gas-bearing by the previous four IM wells, are prognosed to lie beneath the gas/water contact and are therefore water-bearing at this location.

The current well is being drilled about 1 km (0.6 mi) south of the IM-3 well location, in a water depth of 56 m (184 ft), with a TD of 3,475 m (11,401 ft). It has been designed to allow suspension as a future production well.

Drilling will involve an extensive logging, testing, and coring program. The rig has been contracted for a second well, with the location and timing pending results from ongoing technical work and the outcome of the current well.
