HAMBURG, Germany – RWE Dea plans to explore a prospective area offshore Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony in northern Germany.

The company expects to find additional deposits of oil near its producingMittelplate oil field and off the coast of Cuxhaven.

RWE Dea and partners plan to drill exploration wells at four sites. The aim is to prove up about 23 MMcm of crude oil, and to gather information ahead of a future development.

That would entail installing additional production facilities in the Wadden Sea tidelands, since production would be exclusively from the mainland or from the Mittelplate offshore production “island.”

Detailed application documentation for this exploration project has been submitted in both federal states.
