OSLO, Norway – Harvest Natural Resources has secured Saipem’s semisubmersible Scarabeo V to drill the Tortue prospect offshore Gabon.

According to partner Panoro Energy, the Tortue Marin well will be drilled on the Dussafu Marin permit, about 50 km (31 mi) offshore and 15 km (9.3 mi) southeast of the2011 Ruche discovery in 116 m (380 ft) water depth.

The well will target presalt Gamba and mid-Dentale reservoirs, and a secondary post-salt Madiela reservoir. Potential combined resources are 28 MMbbl.

Kjetil Solbraekke, CEO of Panoro, said “We believe that any discovery above 10 MMbbl on Tortue combined with the 2011 Ruche discovery will provide the basis for a commercial development.”

The Dussafu partners have entered into the third exploration phase of the Dussafu PSC, which will run through May 27, 2016.
