LARNACA, Cyprus – Lundin Norway has contracted Prosafe’s newbuild accommodation rig Safe Boreas to support the Edvard Grieg project in the Norwegian North Sea.

Prosafe claims this is the world’s most advanced and efficient harsh environment accommodation rig, with facilities for 450 personnel in single cabins, a DP-3 positioning system, and a 12-point mooring arrangement.

On-site operations should start in 2Q 2015, with a firm period of six months, valued at more than $63 million. Prosafe has granted Lundin a further five-month option which can be exercised by 3Q 2014, or a two-month option exercisable by 3Q 2015.

As for Prosafe’s remaining fleet, the Safe Concordia is in Brazil on a long-term contract, at a day rate of $141,000.

Safe Scandinavia was due to transfer to BP’s Valhall field in the Norwegian North Sea early this month after finishing a program for ConocoPhillips at the Eldfisk field.

Regalia has been operating at Talisman’s Yme field at an average day rate of $273,000.

Safe Astoria started operations offshore Australia in May. Safe Esbjerg has been undergoing maintenance and repair work, while Safe Caledonia has been undergoing a life extension upgrade.
