Offshore staff

OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has approved the use of the semisubmersible West Alpha to drill an exploration well for Statoil.

Well 6607/12-3 will be drilled in 363 m (1,191 ft) water depth on production license 385 in the Norwegian Sea, 16 km (9.9 mi) northwest of the Norne FPSO and 209 km (130 mi) northwest of Brønnøysund. Drilling could start in mid-August, and last about 67 days.

ConocoPhillips Skandinavia has clearance from the PSA to use the jackup Mærsk Gallant for pre-drilling of production wells on Ekofisk Sør in the North Sea.

These will be drilled from the new Ekofisk 2/4-Z platform, which will be connected via a gangway to the Ekofisk field center in PL 018.

Water depth at the drilling site is 79 m (259 ft). Drilling should start early in September and continue through end-June 2013.
