OSLO, Norway – The Artemis Atlantic vessel has started to acquire seismic data in the Nordland IV and V areas in the northern Norwegian Sea. The program should take about a month to complete.

Norway’s Parliament (Storting) tasked the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) with mapping the seabed to obtain knowledge of petroleum deposits in the area.

Seismic acquisition had to be postponed from July 1 to avoid clashing with the Institute of Marine Research’s mackerel mapping in the same area.

NPD’s survey is divided into four partial areas. The plan is to complete one area at a time to minimize disturbance of fishing activity. Work is starting in the northernmost area.
