AKTAU, Kazakhstan – Teniz Burgylau has ordered a newbuild KFELS B Class jackup from Keppel Kazakhstan and its consortium partner Ersai Caspian Contractor. The contract value is $242 million.

Following the scheduled delivery in 1Q 2015, the rig will be deployed in the Caspian Sea. The construction work will be shared by the two consortium members.

The KFELS B Class rig is designed to operate in water depths of 262 ft (80 m), upgradeable to 400 ft (122 m), with a maximum drilling depth of 20,000 ft (6,096 m). This version will incorporate Keppel’s fully automated, high-capacity rack and pinion elevating system, and self-positioning fixation system. It also will be engineered for maximum uptime with reduced emissions and discharges.

This will be the first jackup owned by drilling contractor Teniz Burgylau, a wholly owned subsidiary of KazMunayTeniz JSC. Later this year the company plans to start operating a submersible drilling barge in the Kazakhstani sector.
