Wärtsilä to power six newbuild pipelay vessels destined for Brazil

HELSINKI, Finland – Wärtsilä will supply the power and positioning systems for six newbuild offshore pipelay vessels being constructed for Petrobras use in Brazilian waters.

Wärtsilä will supply design, main engines, and propellers for delivery during 4Q 2012 and the 1Q 2013. The first vessels are scheduled to be launched in 2014, with all six to be fully operable before the end of 2015.

Two of the vessels are to be built for a France-based joint venture between Technip and Odebrecht Oleo & Gas at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) yard in South Korea.

A 550-ton pipelay vessel ordered by Subsea7 is to be designed and built by IHC Merwede.

Two more 550-ton vessels are to be built by Sapura Crest Petroleum Bhd at the IHC Merwede shipyard in the Netherlands.

A 300-ton pipelay vessel will be built by Sapura Crest at the OSX Construcao Naval yard in Brazil.
