STAVANGER, Norway– The heavy-lift vessel Thialf has lifted the 9,000-metric ton (9,920-ton) steel jacket into position on the North Sea Valemon field.

The 160 m (525 ft) high construction is the biggeststeel jacket installed in one lift on the Norwegian continental shelf, and the first major part-delivery on the Valemon development project. The jacket, built by the Heerema Fabrication Group BV in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, was transported from the shipyard to the field by the crane barge.

Development involves a fixed steel-jacket platform to separate gas, condensate, and water. The normally unmanned facility will be controlled remotely from the Kvitebjørn platform after drilling operations have been completed in 2016/17.

Licensees are Statoil, operator (53.775%), Petoro (30%), Centrica (13%), and Enterprise Oil (3.225%). First production is scheduled for 4Q 2014.
