Statoil draws up new target in Johan Sverdrup area

OSLO, Norway – Statoil (OSE:STL;NYSE:STO) has authorization from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for a wildcat well near its giant Johan Sverdrup discovery in the North Sea.

The semisubmersible Ocean Vanguard will drill in license PL 265, 5 km (3.1 mi) northeast of well 16/2-10, after the rig has completed another wildcat for Statoil in PL 552.

This will be the eighth well on PL 265, which was awarded in April 2001 under Norway’s North Sea Awards 2000 round.
