QGOG names two newbuild deepwater drillships

Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás S.A. has named it two newbuild ultra-deepwater drillships.

RIO DE JANEIRO –Queiroz Galvão Óleo e Gás S.A. has named it two newbuild ultra-deepwater drillships. The dynamically positioned vessels are the Amaralina Starand the Laguna Star.

The naming ceremony was in South Korea where the vessels are under construction by Samsung Heavy Industries for delivery in June and September.

The units have been leased to Petrobras for a six-year period with an option to renew for an additional six years. Drilling services will be provided by QGOG.

“TheAmaralina Star and the Laguna Star are capable of drilling in water depths of up to 10,000 ft (3,048 m) and drilling to a total well depth of 40,000 ft (12,192 m). They are designed to operate in ultra-deepwater environments, particularly in the pre-salt area,” said Leduvy Gouvea, CEO of QGOG.
