CALGARY, Canada – TAQA Bratani expects to start drilling the Contender prospect in the UK northern North Sea early next month.

The well in block 211/22a Contender Area will be drilled from the TAQA-operated Cormorant North platform, targeting the Jurassic Brent sequence of sandstones.

If successful, the well could be put into production before year-end through the platform.

Partner Antrim Energy will also participate in the Premier-operated Cyclone exploration well in block 21/7b, expected to spud in October. This will target Tertiary Cromarty sandstone at around 5,000 ft (1,524 m) TVD.

Contender is 11 km (6.8 mi) from the Causeway oil field in block 211/23d (Antrim 35.5%), which remains on track for start-up this summer. The subsea gathering system has been installed, and well completion work is scheduled for July.

Production from the adjacentFionn field in block 211/22a South East Area (Antrim 35.5%) is scheduled to get under way in mid-2013.
