HOUSTON– Marathon Upstream Gabon Ltd. has entered into a farm-out agreement with Total Gabon for a 21.25% working interest in the Diaba license G4-223 and related permit offshore Gabon.

Diaba, which extends more than 9,075 sq km (3,504 sq mi), is l50 km (93 mi) off southern Gabon in water depths ranging from 100-3,500 m (328-11,483 ft).

A 6,000-sq km (2,316-sq mi) 3D seismic survey was acquired over the permit in 2010, following 2D seismic work in 2008 and 2009. Processing of the latest data was completed in late 2011. Data interpretation continues ahead of planned exploration drilling in 1Q 2013.

Other partners in the permit are an affiliate of Cobalt International Energy, and the Republic of Gabon.

“We are pleased to re-enter Gabon and join our partners to explore presalt objectives in the Diaba permit,” said Annell R. Bay, Marathon Oil’s vice president of global exploration.
