All-clear for Ekofisk area pipeline diversion

Offshore staff

OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved Gassco’s request for modifications on the Ekofisk-Emden gas pipeline in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

The proposed program is connected to the phasing-out of the B-11 offshore compressor facility.

Following technical studies by Gassco, the gas line will now be routed from Ekofisk to Emden away from the B-11 installation, followed by removal of the facility.

The work will be performed in tandem with the planned shutdown in the Greater Ekofisk area in summer 2013. Work will involve the installation of a 340-m (1,115-ft) long bypass on the 36-in. (91-cm) pipeline. Water depth close to the facility is around 34 m (111 ft).
