Aker adds new production facility in Brazil

LYSAKER, Norway – Aker Solutions (Oslo Børs:AKSO) is making a $100-million investment to expand its production, assembly, and testing capacity in Brazil to support the country’s rig-building plans.

The 335,222-sq m (3.6 million-sq ft) facility is in Macaé, Brazil, near Aker’s existing Rio das Ostras installation. Work is under way on the site, 180 km (112 mi) northeast of Rio de Janeiro with operation scheduled for early 2014.

The Macaé facility will host full drilling riser production and maintenance services. This includes about 20,000 sq m (215,278 sq ft) of indoor mechanical workshop for riser and topside equipment, with crane and testing capabilities.

It also will have a training space for four drilling simulators.
