Spartacus in GoM dry for Anadarko

Offshore staff

HOUSTON – Anadarko Petroleum Corp.’s (NYSE:APC) Gulf of Mexico exploration well at the Spartacus prospect came up dry, according to reports by Dow Jones. The well targeted subsalt layers in the vicinity of Anadarko's Lucius project.

Despite this result, the GoM "is one of the most, if not the most, prolific deepwater basins in the world," said Ernie Leyendecker, VP, Exploration for Anadarko. "The Gulf is still alive and well. It's the basin that keeps on giving."

Anadarko said its plans to drill six to eight exploration and appraisal wells in the Gulf this year.
