Newfoundland FPSOs face extended maintenance shutdown

Offshore staff

CALGARY, Canada – Suncor Energy expects the 21-week dockside maintenance program for the Terra Nova FPSO to start in June.

Following removal from the field offshore Newfoundland, planned work includes replacement of the vessel’s water injection swivel and completion of the replacement of subsea infrastructure to remediate hydrogen sulfide.

As for the White Rose FPSO, which operates in the same region, Suncor estimates the 18-week off-station maintenance program will begin this month, and mainly address the vessel’s propulsion system.

Off northwest Europe, Suncor has secured Awilco Drilling’s semisub WilHunter for a second firm well at an unnamed location, for an extended period of around 61 days.

Contract value for the firm well is estimated at $19.2 million. Work on the contract’s second well should start early in 2013.
