Jackup component bottleneck slows construction

Offshore staff

SHARJAH, UAE – Fabricator Lamprell warns that its performance will be affected by delays in specialist vendor equipment deliveries for newbuild jackup projects.

The equipment delays reflect tightening of the global supply chain for specialized jackup components. The situation should ease during 2013 when new capacity comes onstream.

Additionally, the company has to contend with progressive slippage in the timing of anticipated new project awards. Lamprell expects to incur a small loss in the first half of 2012, followed by a recovery in the second half.

At the end of April, the company’s order book extending to 1Q 2015 comprised $1.3 billion for newbuild marine projects; $232 million for offshore construction projects including platforms; $37 million for jackup refurbishment projects; and $42 million for other fabrication activities and subsidiary company operations.

Recently, Lamprell won contracts to build two more LeTourneau Super 116E jackups for National Drilling Co. Abu Dhabi, and a further LeTourneau Super 116E for an unnamed drilling contractor.
