WOKING, UK – Valiant Petroleum’s appraisal well on the Tybalt discovery in the northern North Sea has been drilled to a TD of 13,212 ft (4,027 m) MD.
The 211/8c-5 well penetrated a full Upper Magnus Sandstone Member (UMSM) section, 844 ft (257 m) in total with 316 ft (96 m) of net sand.
Initial analysis suggests the hydrocarbon saturations recorded throughout the section were broadly similar to the211/8c-4z discovery well drilled in 2010. Porosities were also similar, but permeabilities recorded in the current well were below expectations.
Reservoir testing could not determine the presence of moveable hydrocarbons from the well.
Valiant and its partner Agora Oil and Gas have opted to suspend the well, and will perform further technical analysis of the core, log, and dynamic test data to assess the size and potential of the accumulation.
